Background: This cytokine binds to TNFRSF1A/TNFR1 and TNFRSF1B/TNFBR. Primarily released by macrophages, it triggers cell death in specific tumor cell lines. It acts as a potent pyrogen, inducing fever either directly or by promoting interleukin-1 secretion, and is associated with cachexia induction. Under specific circumstances, it can foster cell proliferation and drive cell differentiation. Additionally, the TNF intracellular domain (ICD) variant stimulates IL12 production in dendritic cells.
