Background: | This cytokine binds to TNFRSF1A/TNFR1 and TNFRSF1B/TNFBR. Primarily released by macrophages, it prompts cell death in specific tumor cell lines. Known for its potent pyrogenic effects, it induces fever directly or by triggering interleukin-1 secretion and is associated with cachexia induction. Moreover, it can stimulate cell proliferation and drive cell differentiation under specific circumstances. Interestingly, the TNF intracellular domain (ICD) variant stimulates IL12 production in dendritic cells. |
