Background: TNF-alpha is a cytokine generated by monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, NK cells, CD4+ T cells, and various transformed cells. It exists in two forms: a 17 kDa free molecule and a 26 kDa membrane-bound protein. TNF-alpha readily forms stable trimers and other multimeric complexes. Within the immune system, it plays a crucial regulatory role, exhibiting cytolytic and cytostatic effects on numerous tumor cells, promoting fibroblast proliferation, and enhancing neutrophil chemotaxis and phagocytosis.
