Background: Cytokine that binds to TNFRSF1A/TNFR1 and TNFRSF1B/TNFBR, is primarily secreted by macrophages. It can induce cell death in certain tumor cell lines and acts as a potent pyrogen, causing fever either directly or by stimulating interleukin-1 secretion. This cytokine is involved in inducing cachexia and, under certain conditions, can promote cell proliferation and differentiation.
