Background: |
Monoclonal antibody 5N targets TNF-alpha, a 17 KD protein with significant roles in inflammation and metabolism. Initially identified for its cytotoxic effects on tumor cells, TNF-alpha also plays a pivotal role in shock induced by gram-negative microorganisms and various inflammatory and immunological processes. TNF-alpha signals through two receptors, TNF-receptors I and II, each triggering distinct intracellular pathways. Antibody 5N interacts with TNF-alpha across multiple primate species but not pig-tail macaques, with reduced affinity for bovine and canine TNF-alpha. TNF-alpha is also known by aliases TNF, TNF-SF2, DIF, and Cachectin. |
