Background: | A cytokine family member, IL-5 is encoded near the genes for IL-3, IL-4, and GM-CSF, often co-expressed in Th2 cells. It binds to the IL-5 receptor, stimulating B cell growth and immunoglobulin secretion, and is a key mediator in eosinophil activation.
