Interleukin-1 alpha (IL-1α) is a non-secreted pro-inflammatory cytokine produced primarily by activated macrophages, neutrophils, epithelial cells, and endothelial cells. IL-1α has metabolic, physiological, and hematopoietic activities, and plays a central role in regulating immune responses. IL-1α and IL-1β both bind to the same receptor and have similar, but not identical, biological properties. Recombinant rat IL-1 alpha contains 150 amino acids and is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide. |
