| Background: | IL-7, secreted by stromal cells in the red marrow and thymus, is encoded by the mouse IL7 gene. It signals through the IL-7 receptor, a heterodimer composed of the IL-7 receptor alpha and the IL-2 receptor gamma chain. IL-7 promotes the differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells into lymphoid progenitor cells and stimulates the proliferation of B cells, T cells, and NK cells. Murine IL-7 shares about 65% and 88% amino acid sequence identity with human and rat IL-7, respectively, and exhibits cross-species activity. IL-7 has been explored as an immunotherapy agent in numerous clinical trials for various cancers and HIV infection. |
