Background: | Chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 14 (CXCL14), also known as BRAK, is a small cytokine belonging to the CXC chemokine family. It is constitutively expressed at the mRNA level in specific normal tissues and exhibits chemoattractive properties towards activated macrophages, immature dendritic cells, and natural killer cells. CXCL14 has been implicated in tumor development according to existing literature. Recent studies also highlight its involvement in glucose metabolism, feeding behavior-related neuronal circuits, and antimicrobial defense mechanisms. Despite the lack of identified CXCL14 receptors, its intracellular activity in breast cancer cells suggests that its receptor(s) and signaling pathways may differ from those typically associated with conventional CXC chemokines. Recombinant murine CXCL14 comprises 77 amino acid residues and shares high sequence identities of 97% and 99% with human and rat CXCL14, respectively. |
