Background: | CCL23, a member of the CC chemokine family, is encoded by the CCL23 gene located on chromosome 17 in humans, close to several other CC chemokines. It is highly expressed in adult lung, liver, skeletal muscle, and pancreas. This protein exhibits strong chemotactic activity towards monocytes, resting T-lymphocytes, and neutrophils, but not activated lymphocytes, exerting its effects through binding to CCR1. CCL23 is known to undergo cleavage into four forms: CCL23 (19-99), CCL23 (22-99), CCL23 (27-99), and CCL23 (30-99). |
