Biological Activity: Fully biologically active when compared to standard. The ED50 as determined by a cell proliferation assay using human TF-1 cells is less than 0.1 ng/mL, corresponding to a specific activity of > 1.0 × 107 IU/mg.
Physical Appearance: Sterile filtered white lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder.
Formulation: Lyophilized from a 0.2 µm filtered concentrated solution in 20mM PB, pH7.5, 3% trehalose, 0.1% Tween-80.

Reconstitution: Centrifuge the vial briefly before opening to ensure that the contents settle at the bottom. Reconstitute the vial with sterile distilled water or an aqueous buffer containing 0.1% BSA to achieve a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. Divide the resulting stock solution into working aliquots and store them at or below -20°C. For further dilutions, use appropriate buffered solutions.

Background: Interleukin-5 (IL-5) is a cytokine encoded by the IL-5 gene found on chromosome 5 in humans. This location makes it adjacent to genes that produce Interleukin-3 (IL-3), Interleukin-4 (IL-4), and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). These genes are commonly expressed alongside IL-5 in TH2 cells. IL-5 has the ability to promote the growth of B cells and augment the secretion of immunoglobulin. It's also instrumental in activating eosinophils. IL-5 has been linked to several allergic diseases, such as allergic rhinitis and asthma. The human form of IL-5 is a 115-amino acid long TH2 cytokine and is part of the hematopoietic family. Unlike its family counterparts (IL-3 and GM-CSF), this active homodimer glycoprotein is unique. The mouse version, however, contains 133 amino acids.
