| Background: |
Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), is a non-secretory proinflammatory cytokine that gets produced primarily by activated macrophages along with neutrophils, epithelial cells, and endothelial cells. It participates in various metabolic, physiological, and hematopoietic activities and is a key contributor to the regulation of immune responses. It's worth noting that both IL-1α and IL-1β can bind to the same receptor but don't necessarily share identical biological properties. The mature IL 1β in humans shares a 96% amino acid sequence similarity with rhesus, and between 67% - 78% with canine, mouse, and rat IL-1β. |
