| Background: |
IGFBP-4 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein 4) is a member of the IGFBP family, a group of structurally similar secreted glycoproteins that regulate the circulation of IGF-I and IGF-II, directing them to their target tissues. These binding proteins extend the half-life of IGFs and can either enhance or suppress the growth-promoting effects of IGFs on cells in culture. They modify the interaction between IGFs and their cell surface receptors. IGFBP-4 has been shown to consistently inhibit the growth of various cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo. |
