Product Details

Source: Escherichia coli
Molecular Weight: Approximately 7.6 kDa, a single non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 70 amino acids.
Purity: > 98% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analyses.
Biological Activity: Measured in a cell proliferation assay using MCF 7 human breast cancer cells. The specific activity of recombinant human IGF-I/IGF-1 is >1000 IU/mg, which is calibrated against the human IGF-I/IGF-1 WHO International Standard (NIBSC code: 91/554).
Physical Appearance: Sterile filtered white lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder.
Formulation: Lyophilized from a 0.2 µm filtered concentrated solution in PBS, pH7.0.
Endotoxin: Less than 0.01 EU/µg of rHuIGF-1 GMP as determined by LAL method.
Reconstitution: Centrifuge the vial briefly before opening to ensure that the contents settle at the bottom. Reconstitute in sterile distilled water or aqueous buffer containing 0.1% BSA to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. If animal-origin-free condition is expected in your product, then sterile distilled water is recommended. Divide the resulting stock solution into working aliquots and store them at or below -20°C. For further dilutions, use appropriate buffered solutions.
Stability & Storage: Use a manual defrost freezer and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
12 months from date of receipt, -20 to -70°C as supplied.
1 month, 2 to 8°C under sterile conditions after reconstitution.
3 months, -20 to -70°C under sterile conditions after reconstitution.
Background: The insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), as members of the insulin gene family, are growth hormones that promote the proliferation and survival of various cell types including muscle, bone, and cartilage, particularly under laboratory conditions (in vitro). They share structural and functional similarities with insulin, but possess a significantly higher growth-promoting activity.
IGF-1, primarily produced by the liver, functions both as an endocrine hormone and in a paracrine/autocrine manner in target tissues. Its production is stimulated by growth hormone (GH) and can be hindered by factors such as undernutrition, growth hormone insensitivity, lack of growth hormone receptors, or failures of the downstream signaling pathway, including SHP2 and STAT5B, post GH receptor.
Recombinant human IGF-1 consists of 70 amino acids aligned in a globular protein structure with three intra-molecular disulfide bonds. Mature human IGF-1 shares 94% and 96% amino acid sequence identity with the mouse and rat versions of IGF-1, respectively, and demonstrates cross-species activity.
Shipping: The product is shipped with polar packs. Upon receipt, store it immediately at the temperature recommended below.
