Background: | Bone Morphogenetic Protein 7 (BMP-7), part of the BMP group which includes members of the TGF-beta superfamily (BMP2-7), is involved in stimulating the formation of cartilage and bone. More than thirteen BMPs have been identified to date. BMP-7, primarily found in the kidney and bladder, is also present in the developing eyes, brain, and ear during embryogenesis. Also known as osteogenic protein-1 (OP-1), BMP-7 is a powerful cytokine that influences osteoblast differentiation, SMAD1 production, and the development and repair of the kidneys. Human BMP-7 is produced with a signal sequence, a propeptide, and a growth factor domain. The growth factor domain of human BMP-7 is almost identical to that of mouse and rat BMP-7, with 98% amino acid sequence identity. |
Applications: | 1. Molecular standard (Western, ELISA) in studying secreted BMP-7;2. Preparing antibodies for BMP-7 monomer;3. Molecule standard in detecting secreted BMP-7 in reduced SDS-PAGE. |
