Background: |
TNF-alpha, secreted by macrophages during inflammation, infection, and cancer, is cytotoxic to tumor cells. It shares 30% amino acid homology with Lymphotoxin (TNF-beta) and stimulates endothelial cells to produce granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, influencing hematopoiesis. TNF-alpha, produced by monocytes, has cytotoxic and cytostatic effects on various human tumor cell lines. Its cDNA is 1585 base pairs encoding a 233-amino acid protein, with a mature protein starting at residue 77 after a 76-amino acid leader sequence. TNF-alpha is mapped to human chromosome 6. The standard product in this kit is recombinant rat TNF-alpha, consisting of 157 amino acids with a molecular mass of 17KDa. |
