Background: |
The antibody effectively neutralizes mouse interleukin 6 (IL-6) without exhibiting cross-reactivity with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), TNF-alpha, human IL-6, or rat IL-6 in proliferation assays utilizing the KD83 cell line. MP5-32C11 specifically inhibits mouse IL-6-induced proliferation of the NFS60 myelomonocytic cell line and KD83 plasmacytoma. IL-6, a versatile cytokine weighing between 20-22 kDa, plays a pivotal role in severe infection pathophysiology, immune response modulation, acute phase reaction, and hematopoiesis regulation. Furthermore, IL-6 significantly contributes to B-cell differentiation into plasma cells and acts as a potent growth factor for plasmacytoma and myeloma. Its sustained gene expression is crucial in the multistep oncogenesis of plasma cell neoplasia. IL-6 also serves as a highly beneficial culture supplement for generating a substantial number of antibody-producing hybridomas. |
