Background: |
Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a cytokine predominantly generated by activated monocytes, fibroblasts, and epithelial cells. Its biological activities stem from its interaction with a cell surface signaling complex consisting of IL6, IL6RA, and the shared signaling receptor gp130. IL-6 is pivotal in the terminal differentiation of B-cells into Ig-secreting cells, promoting the growth of myeloma and plasmacytoma, and facilitating the differentiation of nerve cells. Furthermore, IL-6 serves as a crucial regulator of the acute phase reaction. |
