Background: |
The gene's protein product acts as a proinflammatory cytokine, capable of triggering IFN-gamma production in T cells. When paired with IL12, it inhibits IL4-dependent IgE and IgG1 production while boosting IgG2a production in B cells. IL-18 binding protein (IL18BP) can directly interact with this cytokine, thereby dampening its biological effects. |
