Background: |
This gene encodes a protein that triggers inflammation in the body. It stimulates T cells to produce IFN-gamma. When paired with IL12, it suppresses the production of IgE and IgG1 dependent on IL4, while boosting IgG2a production by B cells. Additionally, IL-18 binding protein (IL18BP) can bind to this cytokine, dampening its biological effects. |
