| Background: |
The protein generated by this gene functions as a proinflammatory cytokine, capable of stimulating the production of IFN-γ by T cells. When paired with IL12, it has been observed to suppress the production of IgE and IgG1 dependent on IL4, while promoting IgG2a production by B cells. Furthermore, IL-18 binding protein (IL18BP) exhibits a specific interaction with this cytokine, thereby exerting a negative regulatory effect on its biological activity. |
