| Background: |
A cytokine with proinflammatory properties, primarily engaged in polarized T-helper 1 (Th1) cell and natural killer (NK) cell immune responses. When it binds to IL18R1 and IL18RAP, it forms a signaling ternary complex that activates NF-kappa-B, prompting the production of inflammatory mediators. It collaborates with IL12/interleukin-12 to stimulate IFNG synthesis from T-helper 1 (Th1) cells and natural killer (NK) cells. |
