Background: | IL12A is a disulfide-linked heterodimer consisting of a 35-kD subunit encoded by IL12A and a 40-kD subunit belonging to the cytokine receptor family. It is essential for the T-cell-independent induction of interferon (IFN)-gamma and plays a crucial role in the differentiation of both Th1 and Th2 cells. The effects of this cytokine on lymphocytes are mediated by the transcription activator STAT4. Additionally, nitric oxide synthase 2A (NOS2A/NOS2) is necessary for this cytokine's signaling in innate immunity. |
