Background: |
The IL-12 protein is a cytokine primarily produced by monocytes, with some production by lymphocytes. It has diverse roles in immunoregulation and inflammation. IL-12 down-regulates Th1 cytokine expression, MHC class II antigens, and costimulatory molecules on macrophages. It also promotes B cell survival, proliferation, and antibody production. Additionally, IL-12 can inhibit NF-kappa B activity and plays a role in regulating the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. |
