Background: | Interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) is an acid-labile interferon generated by CD4 and CD8 T lymphocytes, along with activated NK cells. Receptors for IFN-gamma are widely distributed across immune cells, triggering an upregulation of class I MHC proteins upon signaling. This augmentation facilitates antigen presentation to T-helper (CD4+) cells. The signaling of IFN-gamma in antigen-presenting cells, as well as B and T lymphocytes recognizing antigens, modulates the antigen-specific stages of the immune response. |
