The ErbB2 (HER2) proto-oncogene codes for a 185 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein resembling a receptor, possessing intrinsic tyrosine kinase activity. Despite lacking a known ligand, ErbB2 kinase function can be triggered in the absence of a ligand when it is overexpressed or through forming heteromeric complexes with other ErbB family members. |
