Background: |
IL-18 functions as a proinflammatory cytokine, stimulating the production of IFN-gamma in T cells. When combined with IL-12, it inhibits the production of IL-4-dependent IgE and IgG1 by B cells while promoting IgG2a production. Additionally, IL-18 binding protein (IL18BP) interacts with IL-18, exerting a negative regulatory effect on its biological activity. |
